The renter must provide a national or Gulf Cooperation Council driving license. You can rent a car for around 15 - 25 BHD a day. These are just guidelines, so do check with the car hire company to clarify the cost and documentation needed.
Speed limits are in kilometres per hour, and are as follows:
- Highways: 100kph/62mph and between
- Other roads: between 50-80kph/31-50mph
Bahrainis drive on the right-hand side of the road.
Driving in Bahrain is generally safe, although unsafe drivers are common. Highways and major roads in the northern third of Bahrain are four to six lanes wide and well maintained. However, roads in villages and other older parts of Bahrain are narrow and winding. Roundabouts are like the British system.
