Banking

It was mainly a cash economy until recently in Brazil, but now electronic payments are becoming a growing trend. You can pay for many things with your carto magnético, for example. In the banks themselves, you'll find all the electronic services that you are used to banking in Europe, and most banks will have English-speaking staff, especially in the foreign exchange section.

Most banks are linked together via the Brazilian Payments Service, operated and controlled by the Banco Central do Brasil.

Banco do Brasil must not be confused with Banco Central do Brasil, which is the central bank, and does not offer the same services as the 'high street' banks.
