The renter must provide a credit card, passport, driving license, and must be over the age of 21. You can rent a car for around 500 CZK a day. These are just guidelines, so do check with the car hire company to clarify the cost and documentation needed.

Speed limits are in kilometres per hour, and are as follows:

  • Motorways: 130kph/80mph
  • Outside Built-up Areas: 90kph/55mph
  • Built-up Areas: 50kph/30mph

Czechoslovakians drive on the right-hand side of the road.

Major roads are of a suffiecient standard. It should be remembered, though, that more rural and side roads are commonly poorly lit and can occasionally prove quite hazardous driving conditions. Czech drivers are generally acknowledged as more relaxed in comparison with the rest of Europe.
